Postby Rumple » Thu Jun 04, 2009 7:57 pm

just wondering why this site is inactive. i see that quite alot of people log in each day but no posts. i'm relativley new to the art of  bonsai so none of my trees are worth showing. I enjoy reading through the posts and learning from u guys. I just dont understand why everyone is so inactive.. No offence ment.
Stay cool and be happy. Cheers Rumple

This site is still new, and most of the members might not have English as a 1st langauge, so could be reluctant to post.

Who knows?

No problem mate, why not post some pics of your trees, people like doing virts..

Rich is probably right, language is probably main issue. Also site is still new and under development.

I come here several times a week, and one reason that prevents me for posting is the high standard of most of the trees posted, the majority of them being collected trees.

Many of the people who post here are either from Scandinavia, or East-european countries where it is apparently easier to find this kind of material.

So I have much less spectacular specimens, mostly from garden centers, cuttings, or seeds.

The posts here are very interesting, and show an approch of bonsai work which is apprently developping very quickly, and it's an opportunity to discover the trees of people that don't post on other forums. it's also an occasion to see species that are not so common where I live and are endemic in other places, like Ostrya carpinifolia, or Carpinus orientalis.

And many of the trees or projects I see here show a great sense of aesthetics from their authors.

So maybe there aren't so many posts as you can find on a forum for beginers just because of the quality of the posts: the fewer, the better?

And language shouldn't be an obstacle, no need to speak fluent English, i think one of the most important thing is to refer to trees with their latin names, it helps.

There are always periods when a forum is more active: if you collect trees, it takes a while before it's established, so you won't post photos every week, but you will post several when collecting time comes, etc.

AlainK, nice words! Please be part of this forum and post here, if you think that your bonsai is not so good you can always put it in a part of forum NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME.

Sure it's nice to look at beautifull finished bonsai pictures, but it's much more to discuss around unfinished ones. People tell their ideas, some even draw virtuals.

I am always to show each and every tree. Through the comments and criticism we can all learn a lot. Of course, that and I do, and I'd love if they all thought so. But everyone decides for himself.

I don't spend a huge amount of time online, so I am not very active. I was hesitant to post advice at first because I am not a bonsai master, but I will start to make me opinion known more. I posted a few of my trees; some look but nobody comments, which is ok because I didn't really ask for it (but it would have been nice(oh well)). but so far my questions have not gone unanswered.
Even though it seems quiet I like this forum better than the others because it feels more laid back. I feel like the others don't want anything to do with you if your not a bonsai master and a professional photographer eg. (Kob)

no no, I mean the other bonsai forum sites, like KoB don't want anything to do with folks who are not bonsai masters and a professional photographers. but I am not sure they even enforce the picture quality thing anyway.
I understand not having enough time all to well. I have time now because I am staying home caring for my wife and new little one.
